What is a US Green Card? |
A Green Card holder (permanent resident) is an individual that has been granted authorization to work and live on a permanent basis in the United States. The proof of this status, is a permanent resident card, commonly known as a "Green Card." There are several different ways in which an individual can become a permanent resident in the United States. The easiest way for a foreign national to achieve permanent resident status in the US, is to participate in the annual Diversity Visa Lottery.

Yes your closest family. you must include your spouse and children under the age of 21 on your DV 2026 lottery application. if your application is selected in the DV 2026 lottery and you obtain a Permanent Resident Card, your spouse and unmarried children under the age of 21 will also receive their Permanent Resident Cards as well.

What Is the minimum age to apply for the DV Lottery? |
There is no minimum age to apply for the DV 2026 immigration lottery program but most people under 18 years old would not qualify due to the educational requirement.

What Are the education or work experience requirements for the DV Lottery? |
Yes, applicants must have at a minimum a high school degree or its equivalent or alternatively, applicants must within the past five years, have acquired at least two years of work experience in a qualifying occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience to perform. Why are people born in certain countries disqualified to enter the DV Lottery? |
The intent of the Diversity Immigration Visa Program is to diversify the US population as well as to provide an immigration opportunity for individuals born in countries that have sent a small number of immigrants to the United States the past five years. No green cards shall be given to natives of countries with “high-admission” rates to the United States.

Can I still apply if I am a native of a country that is not qualified? |
Yes in certain situations you might be able to apply anyway. If you were born in a none-qualifying country you may claim chargeability to your spouses country of birth if your spouse was born in a qualifying country.

DV 2026 in Year 2024, what is going on? |
This year’s Green Card Lottery is called the DV 2026 (where 2026 is the year selected applicants can enter the US) and it is scheduled to close for further applications November 5, 2024.

What is the Green Card Lottery program year? |
The 2024 year is the DV 2026 Green Card Lottery program year, i.e. 2026 is the year that the winners in this years lottery can enter the United States on their Green Cards. This DV Lottery process has five steps that are listed below:
- Submission - Applicants register for the DV 2026 lottery until November 5, 2024 at which time the DV-2026 lottery will close for applications.
- Lottery - The DV 2026 Lottery Draw will be conducted by the Kentucky Consular Center in Williamsburg using a random computerized lottery draw in March 2025.
- Result - The DV 2026 Lottery results will be made public on the State Departments home page on May 3, 2025. Applicants must check them self on-line if they were selected.
- Process - The DV 2026 Lottery Winners submit their immigration forms and formally apply for their Green Card using their DV 2026 winning notification.
- Entry - The DV 2026 Lottery Winners that successfully were processed and successfully completed the immigration interview, may enter the United States any time after January 1, 2026 as permanent residents.
